"""A small local agent: a model that can call Python functions to answer questions about loans.csv.

How it works (the "agent loop"):
    1. You ask a question.
    2. The model replies with either an answer, or a request to call one of our tools.
    3. THIS SCRIPT runs the tool. The model never runs any code itself.
    4. The tool's result goes back to the model, and the loop repeats until it answers.

Safety choices, on purpose:
    - Every tool is read-only and narrow. There is no "run a shell command" tool.
    - Arguments are checked against allowlists before anything runs.
    - The loop stops after --max-steps rounds.
    - Every tool call is printed and written to a log file.
    - Free text in the data (the notes column) is untrusted. The system prompt says so,
and nothing in the notes can make this script do more than the tools allow.
    - The one tool that writes a file only exists with --allow-save, and then asks YOU first.

Before you run it:
    pip install ollama
ollama pull olmo-3:7b-instruct (any model that supports tools will work)
python wrangle.py (not required, but read its output first)

Run it:
python local_agent.py "Which branch had the most loans?"
    python local_agent.py --interactive
python local_agent.py --model qwen3 "What is the late-return rate by branch?"

Dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0.
